Ruhama Missionary Baptist Church

This year is our 120th year and Nov 22 2020 is our designated anniversary service.
Ruhama Missionary Baptist Church was organized in June of 1900. There were 15 charter members.
Rev. J.B. Akins, pastor at the time, named the church. They Chose "Ruhama" because they came from Ruhama Church in Birmingham.
The first church building was destroyed by a storm in 1909. The church rebuilt on the original foundation.
In 1905, the Dekalb Association was organized and Ruhama joined the same year, and was the twenty-fifth church to do so.
1932 was a great year - 58 new members were added during a revival.
In 1937, the church voted to wire the building for electricity.
In 1943, the church voted to buy a piano (an old pump organ had been used).
in 1963, voted to go from one-half time to full-time.
During the year between 1963-1974, carpet was added and new pews were purchased. Also, new alter furniture and air conditioning
was added. A new organ was purchased.
In 1974, called pastor indefinitely for the first time.
In 1975, a Fellowship Hall was built and dedicated to the late Rev. J. Barnett Jones.
In 1978, first united budget was adopted.
December 1979, the church voted to purchase the Lodge Hall from the Masons and converted it into an educational building.
May 1980, baptistry was installed.
1981, the church voted to build a new sanctuary which was completed in January 1985, dedicated February 24, 1986.
1986, a recreation area was added at the rear of the church.
2009, Dedicated new Educational/Fellowship Hall.
We currently have approximately 350 members with an average weekly attendance of 100-110.
